Joanne Belle Bray Carr, 89, loving spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed very peacefully with her husband and loved ones at her bedside on December 11, 2013 She was a resident of Aberdeen Village in Olathe.
Jo was a member of Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as an Elder and Deacon and in countless other ways in the life of that faith community.
She was a 1941 graduate of Westport High School and in 1943 married Charles Robert Carr. In 1966 she graduated from the Florence Cook School of Practical Nursing at the University of Kansas and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse until her retirement in 1991. During her nursing career she was active in the National and State Federations of LPN's, serving as President of the Kansas Federation .
In addition to her church and professional activities, she was active in Campfire, serving on the Sunflower Council Board of Directors and chairing the all city celebration of Campfire's 50th birthday. She also volunteered for the Johnson County Library System, the Johnson County Christmas Bureau, and the Cancer Society.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 70 years, Charlie, who continues to reside at Aberdeen Village, a daughter, Viki White (Gordon Davis) a son, Rev. Rob Carr, (Kathy) four grandchildren, Adam Carr (Meg) Allison Carr (Jonathan Welch) Abigail Carr, and Taylor Carr, and a great grandson, Coleman Robert Carr. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Sue Carr.
Visitation at Cherokee Christian Church 7457 Cherokee Drive 10AM Friday December 20 followed by a celebration of her life at 11AM. Burial immediately following at Newcomer's Johnson County Memorial Gardens at 112th and Metcalf.
