JOHN NORMAN BIRMINGHAM

John Norman Birmingham died September 13, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

John was born August 1,1939 in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Vera Vay (Bevelheimer) Birmingham.  He attended Greenwood and Holy Name grade schools.  He graduated from De La Salle Military Academy with the Class of 1956.  He attended Rockhurst College on an academic scholarship and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.  He later received a master’s degree from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.

John spent almost thirty years at Western Container in Kansas City as account manager.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He was honored to belong to the Monticello Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.  In recent years he enjoyed the camaraderie of the St. Joe’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Group.

John was interested in history, politics, trivia, and geography. In his constant quest for knowledge he read the entire encyclopedia!  He followed baseball, KC Chiefs, and NCAA March Madness.  He played, watched, and loved the game of golf – he was thrilled the time he hit a hole in one!

John leaves behind his loving wife, Carol; daughter Laura Michelle Tovar (Aaron) of Platte County, Missouri, daughter Meghan Carol Birmingham (Michael) of Dallas, Texas, son John Blaine Birmingham (Juliette) of Aix-en-Provence, France; sister Teresa Diane Madson (Del) of Mt. Dora, Florida, brother-in-law Allen Edmund Faber (Donna) of Manchester, Missouri; grandchildren Danielle Marie Tovar, John Raymond Tovar, Mark Jacob Tovar, Ryan James Tovar, and Margaux Marie Birmingham; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (ipffoundation.org).

A private interment will be held at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
