John Franklin Bradford, 81, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Cure' of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Cremation with private interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Cure' of Ars Catholic Church.
John was born July 17, 1927 in Kansas City to Oscar Franklin Bradford, M.D. and Nell Pulley Bradford. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia after serving in the United States Navy during World War II. Dr. Bradford graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School and completed his ophthalmology residency there. For 35 years, he practiced ophthalmology in Kansas City, Missouri and served on the medical staff at St. Luke's Hospital. He was a member of Cure' of Ars Catholic Church. Also an avid hunter and fisherman; he was a competitive skeet shooter. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Jane Bradford Christie. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Rieth Bradford; daughter Lynn Bradford Rasmussen and son-in-law T.J. Rasmussen of Olathe; son John Franklin Bradford, Jr. (Brad) and daughter-in-law Karen Fitzgerald Bradford of New Orleans, Louisiana; and daughter Sarah Bradford Coll and son-in-law Mario Coll, III of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, John Franklin Bradford III, James Fitzgerald Bradford, Katherine Adele Bradford, Elizabeth Ann Bradford, Mario M. Coll IV, Joseph Bradford Coll, and Jacob Anthony Coll.
