John Myron (Scoop) Cunningham passed away on March 16th in Overland Park, KS. He was born April 13th, 1929 to Marjorie Williams and William Cunningham in Washington D.C. He was the third of four children.
Immediately upon his eligibility, John joined the Navy where he stayed until 1948. He later joined the Air Force and was there until 1954. While stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS, he met Rose Lee Moore whom he eventually married in 1957. It was a marriage that lasted over 50 years until Rose passed away in 2013.
After their marriage they moved to California and then back to Washington, D.C. During their time in Washington, they had a daughter, Patricia Lee (Patty), in 1962. They moved back to the Kansas City area, finally settling in Roeland Park where they lived for nearly 40 years. In 1965 they had a son, Bradley Jaye (Brad).
During his time in most of his non-military stops John worked in the Flooring Industry, mostly as a Carpet Installer but also as a Salesman and then sole proprietor of Carpet Store. After his retirement and two knee replacements, John worked as a Bus Driver for multiple care facilities in the Johnson County area.
In his free time he worked with a group called Abounding Love, through Colonial Presbyterian Church working with persons with developmental disabilities. He also spent many hours, many days a week with friends at a water exercise class, where friendships carried on well past the swimming pool.
John was preceded in death by all those mentioned above except for his son.
