John Eugene Favero, 79, passed away Feb. 11, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Cherokee, KS on Sept. 30, 1936 to John and Margaret (Calso) Favero.
John graduated from Cherokee High School. He graduated with a bachelors and Master’s Degree from Pittsburg State University. He furthered his education at Emporia State University, earning an Ed Specialist. He also attended San Jose State and Oklahoma State University.
John enjoyed his career as a math teacher for 46 years. His teaching career began at Weir Kansas High and Erie Kansas High. He retired after 42 years at Independence Community College in 2004.
When in Independence, KS, he was a member of the KNEA and NEA. He received eight national scholarship grants and was recognized in the Outstanding Educators of America in 1972, Who’s Who Among College Teachers in 2000 and 2003-05, and awarded Master Teacher at Independence Community College in 2004. He was Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club from 1962-2004. He also served as Treasurer of Verdigris Valley Association.
John married Patricia Montee in Cherokee, KS in 1959. Two children were born of that marriage, Sherri Lynn and John Jr. After his retirement he located to Prairie Village, KS where he has resided with his loving wife of 56 years. He has been a long time member of the Indian Heights United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his wife Patricia; children, Sherri (Ken McAlpin) and John Jr.; grandson Brett and great-granddaughter, Nora.
Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Monday, February 15, 2016 at Indian Heights United Methodist Church, 10211 Nall Ave., Overland Park, KS 66207, followed by funeral service at 2:00 pm.
Burial to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Indian Heights UMC or KC Hospice.
