John Charles Gilmore III, 61, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 in Overland Park, Kansas from complications of vasculitis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, September 26, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park. A gathering of family and friends will be 5-6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the chapel.

John was born on June 22, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired from the Overland Park Fire Department in 2002 after 25 years as a firefighter. John was also a Certified Farrier and member of The American Farriers Association and Kansas Farriers Association. He enjoyed golfing with friends and never met a stranger.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Major; father, John C. Gilmore, Jr.; and one brother, Glen Major. Survivors include his wife Barbara of 34 years; daughter Melissa Goodloe, and grandsons Vaughan and Corbin; son, John J. (JJ) Pennington; five brothers; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many friends that have provided their love and support throughout John's illness. They would also like to extend thanks to the medical staff of St. Luke's Hospital and Indian Creek Healthcare Center. John, your family and friends love you and will miss you with each passing day.
