John Thomas Golom, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 19, 2024.
He was born in Chicago, Il. on September 11, 1924 to John Golom and Elizabeth (Smith). He attended Our Lady of Peace Elementary School and Mount Carmel High School. John served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier navigator trainee from 1943-1945 before being honorably discharged.
He met the love of his life. Beatrice (Clark), while attending Michigan State University where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering. The couple were married on August 20, 1949. They resided in St. Louis for most of their lives raising their six children: Kathy Daly (Marc), Pat Hall, Mike, Becky Hanneman (Tom), Linda Mies (Mike) and Matt. In 1975, John and Bea moved to Kansas City with the 3 youngest children for John's work. John had various jobs with multiple companies throughout his career as a chemical engineer, design engineer and a manufacturer's rep for instrumentation and control equipment. He spent much of this time traveling to the 4 state region of Missouri, Kansas, lowa and Nebraska.
Throughout his 100 years he had many hobbies and interests including: baking, canning. gardening, fishing, singing, crossword/jigsaw puzzles, and raising springer spaniels. He was a fan of the St. Louis Blues and was involved with the Boy Scouts and girls softball. As a long time member of St. Agnes he was involved with baking for the St. Joseph's Table events and was a 4th Degree Knight.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Beatrice; his two younger sisters, Betty (Simpson) and Gertie (Sr. Mary Carla); and his daughter, Pat Hall.
He left a legacy of ten grandchildren (Josh, Ashley, Jason, Craig, Phil, Aly, Katie, Danny, Laura and Sarah) and 11 great-grandchildren (Amelia, Abby, Isaac, Hope, Allegra, Bobby, Olivia, Paisley and Ridley).
In lieu of flowers, contribution are suggested to St. Agnes Catholic Church and/or Alzheimer's Association.
