John (Jack) R. Hill a recent resident of Holiday Island went to live with the Lord when he passed away in his home in Overland Park, KS on April 5, 2013 at the age of 80. He was born May 6, 1932 in Clinton, IA, the son of Charles J. and Esther Randolph who preceded him in death.
Jack lived at Holiday Island for 22 years and was active in golf, fishing and community works. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #9 and served as their chaplain, founding member of the Old Coots Golf League, Holiday Island Men's Golf Association, Fun Fisherman, and organized the "Holiday Island Navy". He served on the Board of Commissioners for Holiday Island 1992-1995. He also served on the Board of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Eureka Springs. He served in the Air Force from 1951 until 1959.
On December 26, 1951, in Clinton, IA, Jack was united in marriage with Barbara Baird who survives him. He is also survived by 2 sons and a daughter, John R. Hill Jr. and his wife Judy of Bates City, MO, Steven and his wife Candy of Powder Spring, GA, and Kathy and her husband Joe Kusek of Overland Park, KS: 4 grandsons, Chris Kusek and his wife Chelsey, Corey Kusek, Kevin Kusek all of Overland Park, KS and Jonathan Hill of Ann Arbor, MI. Two sisters, Carol Ann Sander of Stanwood, IA, and Sharon Dybdahl of Kemah, TX, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at Mary Queen of Angels, Catholic Church at 1:00 pm in Fort Scott, KS with a luncheon at the school preceding the mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Fort Scott National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. The American Legion Walker-Wilson Post #9 will be honor guards.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to "Wounded Warriors".
