John Loats, 87, formerly of Prairie Village, KS, returned to our Lord Jesus on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Kansas City Hospice House.
John was born in Gary, South Dakota to Albert and Gertie Loats of Lennox, South Dakota. He was drafted into the Army and served during World War II in Japan. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Sioux Falls College in 1950. He was a price analyst for Amoco Oil in Minneapolis and then in Overland Park. He also worked part time for many years at Sears. He was a long time member of Village Presbyterian Church. He was united in marriage with Maxine Huegel in 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She preceded him in death in April of 2013.
He is survived by four children, Bob of Kansas City, KS, Tom (Tena) of Overland Park, Kathy Powell (Tom) of Leawood and Bill (Julie) of Lawrence; ten grandchildren, Ben, Miranda, Jack, Abby, Louise, Joseph, Daniel and Betsy Loats and Nick and Spencer Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Johnson County Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO.
John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be forever missed.
