John Maurer

May 26, 1918 — February 9, 2015

John S. Maurer, 96, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away February 9, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.  Visitation will be held at 10:00am until the memorial service at 11:00am on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to the Asbury United Methodist Church or charity of their choice.  Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com.
John was born on May 26, 1918 in Dexter, Kansas.  He graduated from Kansas State University in 1940 with a degree in Business and Accounting.   He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force.  He married his beautiful bride Betty Jean Miller on December 14, 1941 and they spent 73 wonderful years together.
John started his career with General Electric Corporation and spent 22 years with Reno Construction retiring in 1968.
John was an active real estate developer in Overland Park, Kansas and served on the Overland Park Planning Commission.  He was active in the community, serving as the Past President of the Shawnee Mission Indian Historical Society, President of the Overland Park School Board and School District #110, member of the Johnson County Museum Board, and charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church and served as an administrative board chairman.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jean Maurer of the home; two sons, John S. Maurer, Jr. (Jan), Wichita, Kansas and William Miller Maurer, Westwood, Kansas; three daughters Susan Randolph, Joplin, Missouri, Sally Heuer (Denny), Watertown, South Dakota, Mary Lou Framel (William), Overland Park, Kansas.  He was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
As a member of the “greatest generation” he was the greatest to his family.  His family always came first in his life.   He was an avid walker and enjoyed travelling with friends and family.
