John Edward Mitus, 47, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on November 3, 1966, in Ludlow, Massachusetts, to Walter and Anna Mitus. John graduated from Ludlow High School and Bryant College, where he met his loving wife, Patty. His two adored daughters, Brianna and Carley, were born in Las Vegas, Nevada. John was most recently employed by Sprint, in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, in Leawood, where he had the privilege of leading a disciple class for the past 4 years.
Loving memories are cherished by his wife, Patty, and his daughters, Brianna and Carley. He was an amazing husband, father and friend, and will be greatly missed. He is also survived by his mother, Anna, and his brother, James.
John was preceded in death by his father, Walter T. and brother, Walter F.
His life will be celebrated with a service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, Leawood Campus, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS 66224. A reception will follow the service. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Wesley Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a soccer scholarship set up in John's honor. Contributions should be made out to Olathe East High School, 14545 W. 127th Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Please note on the check memo "Mitus Soccer Scholarship Fund."
