John Neet

John "Papa" Neet, 64, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home in Olathe, KS.

John was born October 25, 1949, in Kansas City, KS, to Arthur and Elsie (Howard) Neet. He grew up in Overland Park, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission West in 1967. He married the love of his life, Deborah Storey in 1970. John followed his father and brother into the newspaper business. He enjoyed a long career at the Kansas City Star, retiring in December of 2012. John enjoyed all things outdoors. He spent his spare time taking care of his lawn, gardening, and planting beautiful flowers. He was an avid Kansas State Football fan, bar-b-que enthusiast, and golfer highlighted by winning a trip to Las Vegas in a local golf tournament. John was known well by his friends, co-workers and neighbors as the man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone at anytime. Papa loved and cherished his wife, three daughters and the rest of his family most of all.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Deborah; 3 daughters, Shelly (Daniel) Martinez, Katie (George) Pacheco and Holly Neet; 5 grandchildren, Hailey, Nicolas, George, Thomas and Riley; 3 siblings, Janice Baric, Arthur Neet and Suzie Fuller; and his best buddy, Big Kitty.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
