John Raymond O'Hara, age 62, of Warsaw, Missouri, formerly of Kansas City, passed away February 28, 2013 at his home. He was born on August 3, 1950 in San Rafael, California.
He grew up in Louisiana for a short time and then moved with his mother to San Francisco, California. He attended Sacred Heart High School and graduated from South San Francisco High School. He then attended San Mateo Community College. He joined the United States Army Reserves as a MP for six years while at the same time working for Western Electric and later Wresco Small Appliance. In June of 1979 he began working for National Presto Industries as a Sales Manager. He worked there thirty-two years, retiring in 2011 and moving to the Lake of the Ozarks.
He is a member of the Covenant Chapel Church of Leawood, Kansas. John enjoyed playing softball and racquetball, fly fishing and spending time with his family. In addition John was a competitive drag boat racer. He was a member of the Central States Drag Boat Association, the St. Louis Drag Boat Association, the Kentucky Drag Boat Association and the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. In 1994 he won the Summer Nationals in Wichita, Kansas, in 2010 he was High Points Champion in the SE Class of the St. Louis Drag Boat Association. In 2012 he was Runner-Up in the Modified Eliminator (10 second class) of the St. Louis Drag Boat Association.
He is survived by four children; Ryan, Brennan (Angela), Michael and Meghan O'Hara, all of the Kansas City Area, one granddaughter Kyllian, a brother Bill O'Hara and his wife Pam, of San Jose, California, and a sister Zelda Swartz, of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his love, companion, and caregiver, Debbie Timmer, of Warsaw, his cousin and special friend Tim O'Hara, of San Francisco, California, his niece Kelly O'Hara and nephew Andrew, of San Jose, California.
Memorial Services will be held at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210 at 1:00 p.m on Saturday, March 16th with a reception to following at The Bacchanalia Private Dining 12450 Newton St, Overland Park, KS 66213. John's final resting place will be at Shawnee Mission Memory at 23215 west 75th street, Shawnee, Kansas 66227.
