John Phillip Boyd

November 19, 1933 — October 19, 2013

JOHN "JACK" PHILLIP BOYD, 79, Overland Park, KS, died at his home after a brief illness on October 19, 2013.
He was the youngest of 8 children born to Erie and Ethel Boyd on November 19, 1933. Jack was raised in LaCygne, KS. After graduating from LRHS he married his high school sweetheart Betty and they moved to Overland Park to continue their life for 60 plus years.
He was a loyal employee of KCP&L for 38 years. He also had interest in and helped run numerous bars in the Kansas City area. The last of which was BJ's Lounge where Betty ran the kitchen.
He was an avid sports fan and very loyal to his Kansas City teams. He had been a Chief's season ticket holder since 1969. He was always ready to be a spectator at any high school or little league game. For many years he was the coach for his son's little league teams. In most recent years he became very active in running fantasy football leagues.
Jack loved life and through this life he gained so many good friends. He was always telling a joke or a story. Laughter was a big part of his life.
Jack was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; and infant son and his son, Joe.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Betty of the home; daughter, Joyce (Bill) Steuernagel of Wagoner, OK; his much loved grandchildren, Amanda (Zac) Lassiter of Jenks, OK, Allison (David) Valladares of Roeland Park, KS, Rachael (Chris) French of Olathe, KS, Megan Steuernagel of Oklahoma City, OK, and William Steuernagel of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Abigal Valladares, Bella Lassiter and Livie Lassiter; and many nieces and nephews.
