John H. Spencer, 88, passed away August 19, 2012. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 at D.W. Newcomers Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road. John is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Stidham; his parents; and his sister, Edythe Fernandes. John was born December 17, 1923 to O.L. and Elizabeth Spencer in Kankakee, IL. He graduated from Northeast High School. He was an Eagle Scout. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during WWII. He was one of the many brave soldiers who jumped in France on D-Day. After the end of the War, he began his 45 plus year career with JE Dunn Construction Company. He rose from Carpenter to General Superintendent. He was often assigned the newest or most difficult projects because of his reputation for excellence and perseverance. He married Wanda Spencer more than 57 years ago. He was an avid bowler. Right before retirement, John and Wanda moved to a small acreage near Louisburg, KS raising cattle, and hay. He was a member of Overland Park Baptist Temple. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; daughter, Karen Randall of KC, MO and husband, Dan, 3 grandchildren, Angela Evans and husband, Ed, Scott McLeod and companion, Ashlee, and Matt Montgomery and wife, Tisha; brother-in-law, Leroy Davis and family; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandchild; and nieces Susan Neff and Judith Fernandes.
