John H. Storrie, 100, Overland Park, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at The Forum of Overland Park.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at Community Room Assisted Living Center of The Forum of Overland Park, 3509 W. 95th St., Overland Park. Cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the SPCA.
John was born in North Lawrence, Ohio, on October 17, 1907. He was a graduate of Wooster College, where he graduated first in his class and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then went on to law school and graduated first in his class at Case Western Reserve University, and was also a member of Order of the Coif. He married Evelyn Simmons, whom he knew his entire life, on October 16, 1936, and they had two children, Sally Matthews and Vicki McChesney. For most of their marriage they lived in Bay Village, Ohio. During his career, he was a partner in the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue. In 1996, he and his wife moved to Overland Park, Kan., to be closer to their family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn, his sister, Grace Vogt, and his daughter, Sally Matthews. He is survived and will be missed by his daughter Vicki and her husband Sam McChesney; five grandchildren, Nate McChesney, Littleton, Colo., Mandy Lockett, Shawnee, Kan., Jed McChesney, Olathe, Kan., Johnna Matthews, Silver Springs, Md., and Trisha Sherman, Olathe, Kan., and six great grandchildren, Samantha and Libby Lockett, Edward and Miles McChesney, and Michael Sherman and Jordan Gates.
