Joline Bowles Sabin was born on December 10, 1923 to Hazel and George Bowles in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Border Star, the Barstow School, Southwest High School and Kansas City University (now UMKC). She met her future husband, Eugene R. Sabin in college and they were married in 1947. After Gene’s graduation from Kansas City University in 1949, they lived in the Kansas City area the rest of their lives. Joline worked for several years at Skelly Oil Company and the Vendo Company.
Joline served as Membership Secretary on the Board of Directors of Friends of the Zoo for 13 years. She was a volunteer docent at the Kansas City Zoo for 17 years and served as president of the docent group.
She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and served on the K.C. Alumnae Board and also on the House Corporation Board of its local chapter at UMKC.
She volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for 13 years and served on its auxiliary board.
Joline was a former 25-year member of the Johnson County Young Matrons and served on its board. She was also a former long-time member of the Brookridge Country Club. She was an avid duplicate bridge player, reader and crossword puzzle worker.
Joline was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, her brother George L. Bowles and her parents. Her father wrote the K.U. fight song “I’m a Jayhawk” in 1912 and it was introduced in a student musical show he wrote and produced that year while a student at K.U. Joline is survived by a sister-in-law, several nieces and a special “adopted” niece, Nancy Ingram.
Per Joline’s request, there will be no funeral services. Private burial at Forest Hill Cemetery
