Joseph Foster

September 19, 1920 — October 30, 2017

Joseph Joe “Buddy” Foster, 97, passed away October 30, 2017. A visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am Friday, November 3rd with a memorial mass to follow at 10:30 both held at Queen of the Holy Rosary, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, KS.

Joe was born to William and Ora Mae McKee Foster in Oklahoma City, OK. After completion of high school Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army serving three years. During those years he was in active duty during the “Battle of the Bulge”.

After coming home, Joe began a successful career at Johnson’s Wax for 10 years, then moved to Dow Chemical for 35 years, until mandatory retirement.  Not ready to slow down, at 70, Joe worked part-time for a local pharmacy, happily delivering medications to “old folks.”   Fortunately, throughout most of Joe’s career, he was able to travel considerably, making many lifelong friends.

Joe was an active member at Queen of the Holy Rosary for over 40 years serving as an Usher and Lector. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 370. Joe also had the privilege to be on the Washington Honor Flight to visit Washington, D.C.

Joe is preceded in death by 3 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Marilyn; daughters, Sharon (Pat) Delozier, Susan (William) Yarmuth, Sandra (Scott) Bigelow, Stacey Foster, Sally (Mark) Willey, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Additionally, Joe leaves behind countless friends, and loved ones including Nina and Stewart Bunn, Luann Butters, Ellen Hinman, Ann Granger and his favorite home care nurse Kathryn with a “K”.

Joe will always be remembered lovingly by his entire family for his gift of story-telling and love of song.  Joe and Marilyn shared a great love of the theater, both live and cinema, reading and working crossword puzzles.  Joe’s book interest ranged from Stephen Hawking to Harry Potter. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
