Joseph “Floyd” Fredelake, 102, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
Floyd was born on February 16, 1921, on the family farm near Spearville, Kansas to Frank and Mary Fredelake. He was the youngest of seven children.
Floyd married the love of his life, Elva Ott, in 1941, and they enjoyed nearly 73 years together. Floyd and Elva moved to the Kansas City area in 1956. Floyd worked for the United States Postal Service as a Railway Mail Clerk for 20 years. After retiring in 1991, Floyd and Elva moved to Arizona. They returned to the Overland Park area in 2007.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife Elva in 2014, grandson Shaun Siren, his parents and his six siblings. He is survived by his daughter Jayne Ford, granddaughters Jennifer (Eric) Busenbark and Joey Phillips, six great grandchildren; Sadi, Jon, Tara, Jenna, Haylee and Leyton, and his four great-great grandchildren; Cayden, Tobi, Landon and Leo.
Floyd was blessed with faith and a passion for life. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II in England, France, Belgium and Holland. He was avidly patriotic and always had a U.S. flag on display. Floyd was also a gifted storyteller. He loved to tell of his childhood and many later adventures with passionate detail and humor. Floyd was loved and admired by everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20th, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St. Leawood, KS 66209, followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
A private Inurnment will take place at the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery.
