Joseph J. Hoobery
Joseph Jackson Hoobery Jr. 95, of Olathe, Kansas. Born on August 25, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
His parents were Beula and Joel Hoobery Sr. They lived most of their lives in the Kansas City area. Joe graduated from Northeast High School and Kansas City Business College. Joe was married to Joyce Raynor on March 29, 1946 a year after returning from his service in the Army Air Corps of which he was the Captain of a B-24 bomb squadron. Joe served his country for three years in the Guadalcanal area.
Joe was a salesman most of his career. He worked in the garage door business owning three of his own businesses. Joe was also an inventor. He invented many gadgets but he held the patent on tandem door brackets of which he sold through Sears.
Joe had a business that was an angle iron bending company for hanging garage doors and operators. He had a life changing accident in one of the machines that took all eight of his fingers. Joe never let that stop him from living life to its fullest. It was his incredible faith in Jesus that kept him going. Joe and Joyce were club sponsors for Kansas City Youth For Christ and camp counselors at YFC camps. They were also youth leaders in their church.
Joe and Joyce were involved in two of the Billy Graham Crusades that we have had in Kansas City. Joyce was an executive secretary and Joe was involved in the security. They were also counselors for the crusades.
Joe was a private plane pilot. He love flying! He flew for pleasure, transporting pastors for various events, and work. He was always a very responsible pilot never taking unsafe chances. He flew up until he lost his fingers. He could have continued to fly but he didn’t want to take any chances.
Later in life, after the loss of Joyce, Joe married Julie Kracht. Joe and Joyce with their friends Julie and Red Kracht traveled together to Europe, Hawaii, and took many cruises. The couples also worked together decorating for banquets, television, and volunteering at Youth For Christ. Two lonely people who had many of the same memories came together.
Above all his faith was what drove Joe in his life. He shared his faith up till his last breath. He love Jesus and wanted to make sure he did his best to share that faith with anyone who would listen.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce Hoobery and son Dale Hoobery, and Julie Kracht Hoobery. He leaves behind his daughter Dianna Hoobery McElwain and son-in-law Craig McElwain, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, December 28th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Rev. Neil MacPherson will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to City Union Mission of Kansas City.
