Joseph R. Hurd, age 82, of Overland Park, KS died on Saturday, June 26, 2010. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 1st at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS with visitation from 12-2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
Joe was an Army veteran and served his country in World War II. After the military, he joined the ranks of law enforcement. He was a deputy sheriff with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department for many years, before becoming Chief of Police of Mission, KS.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joan and his grandson, Clint. Survivors include his daughter, Janis Loser and her husband John; sons, Jim Hurd and his wife Cheryl, and John Hurd and his wife Leigh; grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, Sean and Dylan; great grandchildren, Noah, Allison, Zachary, Camren, Carter, Robert and Heather.
