Joseph Pianin, 90, Leawood, Kansas passed quietly at Kansas City Hospice House on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Born in Canada to Morris and Lottie Pianin, he became a Brooklyn, NY resident as a child, then a New Jersey resident before retiring in Leawood in 2002.
Joe enlisted and served as a Sgt. in Japan during WWII and after being discharged, he had a long career in sales in the textile industry.
Joe was preceded in passing by his loving wife Ruth (Cooper) Pianin. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Pianin) Ferenc; his granddaughters, Stephanie Lauffenburger and Chelsey Ferenc, both of New Jersey; nephew Barry Pianin and his wife Jean of New Jersey; great niece, Laurie Englebretsen of Texas and great nephews, Mark and Michael Pianin of New Jersey. He was also preceded in passing by his brothers, Harry and Henry. He was blessed to have found his caregiver Andrea Metcalf of Missouri, who was there until the end of his life’s journey.
He enjoyed traveling, music, classic movies and had a soft spot for animals including his latest rescue “Kitty”. He was a quick witted man, who thoroughly enjoyed people’s reaction to his humor. Along with dedication to help animals, his various charities included the blind, veterans and several others.
