Joyce LaReah Hoobery, 83, Overland Park, KS, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6 at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene, 119th & Stateline, KCMO. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Monday, January 5 at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th, Kansas City, MO 64111.
Joyce was born December 8, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Joseph Hoobery on March 29, 1946. She was a secretary at the Kansas Wheat Improvement Corp., Stromberg/Carlson, and Anaconda Brass Company. She was the Executive Secretary to the Billy Graham Crusade and secretary to the director of the Billy Graham School of Evangelistic Training. Joyce was also secretary to the director of Kansas City Youth for Christ of which she spent most of her adult life ministering to teenagers. She also organized and decorated for banquets and designed sets for Youth for Christ television programs.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph J. Hoobery, Jr.; son, Dale Hoobery and daughter-in-law, Maleea; daughter, Dianna McElwain and son-in-law, Craig. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
