Joyce S. Vernon, age 74, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was born on October 3, 1936, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Alice (Walker) and Phil Wright. She worked at AT&T for over 20 years in various sales and training positions until her retirement in 1995. She then enjoyed a second career in interior decorating at Noels and she was also a founding member of PEO Chapter II. Joyce loved being with family and friends, traveling to exotic locations and enjoying good wine. She was extremely proud of her family, her two daughters, her son and her 6 grandchildren. Joyce bravely battled cancer for almost 3 years of her life and did so with her usual grace, sense of humor and strength.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow. Survivors include her son, David Vernon (Sarah) of Dallas, TX; daughters, Amy VanNortwick (Kris) and Stacy Fallucca (John), both of Overland Park; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Sachse, Matthew Fallucca, Alexandra Fallucca, Maxwell Vernon, Nicholas VanNortwick and Madison VanNortwick; her former husband, Richard Vernon. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Wright, her mother and father, Alice and Phil Wright.
