Judy Guyot

April 27, 1939 — April 4, 2016

Judy Reed Guyot, age 76, of Overland Park, KS, passed away at home on April 4, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and recent breast cancer.  She was born April 27, 1939, in Lincoln, NB, to Forest B. (Frosty) and Ruth V. Reed.  The family moved to the Kansas City metropolitan area in 1940 where Judy graduated from Southwest High School in 1957.  She then attended the University of Missouri, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and ranked second in the class.  Judy was a member of Delta Gamma social sorority and Sigma Theta Tau honorary nursing sorority.
In college, she met John A. (Al) Guyot and was married June 17, 1961.  They remained in Columbia for a year while Al completed graduate school and Judy worked at the university hospital.  That was followed by two years in Lawton, OK, where he was stationed at Fort Sill.  They moved to this area in 1964 and resided here since that time.
Two of Judy’s major interests were bridge and golf.  She was a loyal MIZZOU Tigers fan, attending football games for 40 years with Al and friends Al and Ruth Gurwell.  Judy actively volunteered to support visually handicapped children through Delta Gamma sorority and was a member of Kansas City Athaneum.  She also served as Directory of Advocacy for Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PLAFG).  Judy was passionate in her views and a strong advocate for family members and friends.
Judy is survived by her husband, sons John F. (Frosty) Guyot (Janis), Thomas C. (Tom) Guyot (Tim Thomas), two grandchildren, sister Rochelle V. Crawford, and five nephews and nieces.  Judy was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister Jeanelle C. (Jeanie) Garbig.  Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to Kansas City Hospice, Planned Parenthood of Kansas & Mid-Missouri, or an animal welfare organization of your choice.
