Mr. J.V. Burns, age 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Manor Care.
J.V. was born March 31, 1917 in Devon, Kansas. He served his country during World War II in the US Army under General Patton, 3rd Division, and during the invasion of Omaha Beach. He was a supply driver for Patton?s troops. He married Erna Loesch in Ansbach, Germany on October 16, 1948.
They made Kansas City their home in 1949. J.V. drove for Southwest Freightlines for 24 years and in retirement worked for Burke Industries when he retired again in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion, Dwight Cowles Post #370 and joined the Nu-Voice Club in 2001 following a laryngectomy. J.V. and Erna were active mall walkers at Oak Park Mall for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Erna Burns of Overland Park, Kansas; 2 brothers and their wives, Ross & Ruby Burns of Douglas, Kansas, Carl & Bernice Tuggle of Ft. Scott, Kansas; brother-in-law, Arthur Loesch and his wife Irma; and many nieces and nephews. Erna would like to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses, the staff of Manor Care and Kansas City Hospice, her many friends and neighbors, especially Eva & Joe Hart and Janet Dalton that provided support through the years.
A celebration of his life will be 12:00 noon Tuesday, January 9th at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held 11:00 ? 12:00 Tuesday at the chapel prior to the service.
