Karen Davis

Karen Elaine Davis died Wednesday July 16, 2008, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was 61 years old.

Karen was born on August 19, 1946, and married Larry Lee Davis on April 20, 1968, in Olathe, Kan., and they enjoyed more than 40 years of marriage and love. Following graduation from college and marriage, Karen started teaching English at Indian Creek Junior High School and later transferred to be the Librarian at Shawnee Mission South High School. The family moved to Jamestown, North Carolina, in 1997 and Karen continued her career as the Media Specialist. Karen enjoyed years of active service at Jamestown United Methodist Church, where her passion for working with youth extended into many activities. Karen was an avid reader and also enjoyed music and was a founding member of the praise and worship ministry at JUMC. In both Kansas and North Carolina, she touched the lives of countless children and others through her work and in her volunteer endeavors. Karen's family is honored with the memory of her kind smile, keen sense of direction, immense family devotion, unending curiosity, memory and caring for other people, fighting spirit, unmatched whirlwind vacation planning, and unfaltering love.

Karen is preceded by her parents, Irma and William Bogart; and her parents-in-law, Chester and Gladys Davis. She is survived by her husband, Larry Lee Davis of Jamestown; and daughter, Beth Kristine Davis of Raleigh, North Carolina. Karen loved her family and they will miss her deeply. Donations will be accepted in Karen's memory for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Education Ministry at JUMC.

Her funeral will take place at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan., on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m. in the Wesley Chapel. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
