Karen Lou Brogger Hagstrom Braswell, 69, of Drexel, Missouri, passed away on June 29, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. An outdoor Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10 a.m.at the Overland Park Arboretum, 3909 W. 179th Street, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will follow the service. Please dress casually and coolly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Karen was born October 26, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Lawrence Adolph and Elizabeth Louise (Lossing) Brogger. In 1966, Karen married Darrel Lee Hagstrom. Over about 14 years, they had three children. After relocating several times across the country, they settled in the Kansas City area. In 1980, Karen and Darrel were divorced. Karen worked 2-3 jobs as a single mother, until she met her current husband, Jim Braswell, in 1996. In 1998 the two were married until her death on June 29. Karen was a wonderful friend to so many people and was always there to help or console them. Her favorite pastime was crafting, primarily by knitting or crocheting. She would sell her crafts at art/craft shows and at farmer’s markets. Karen and Jim loved the outdoors and nature, and extensively traveled the last few years of her life. Karen and Jim maintained regular attendance at the Southfork Baptist Church, in rural Drexel, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Elizabeth, and by her parents, Larry and Betty Brogger. Survivors include: her husband of 18 years, Jim Braswell; her daughter, Corrine (Tom) Mosburg; her son, Dane Hagstrom; stepdaughters Jami (Rick) Davis and Amanda (Geoff) Green, and son-in-law, David Hadl. She is also survived by eleven (11) grandchildren: Tyler, Carolyn, Caleb, Joshua, Jenna, Harrison, Ashley, Abi, Nicole, Natalie, and Connor; sister, LuAnne (Gail) Moe, and brothers, Ron (Diane) Brogger and Don (Melissa) Brogger.
