Karl F. Schmidt, 91, of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
It had been Karl's request that his body be cremated and no memorial service held.
Karl was born June 8, 1922 in Dysart, Iowa to Frank and Lula Schmidt. Karl's parents predeceased him.
Karl was educated in the Dysart public schools and University of Iowa where he was a member and President of Delta Upsilon fraternity.
Following his graduation from the University of Iowa in December of 1942, Karl joined the Army and was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for training. During WWII Karl participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters and 5 Battle Stars. Karl was discharged from the Army as a First Lieutenant in October 1945, shortly after his marriage to Ramona C. Schmidt on July 29, 1945.
Karl graduated from Harvard Law School in 1948. He was a partner in the law firm of Morrison Hecker Curtis Kuder & Parish until his retirement in 1991. Karl was a member of the Missouri Bar Association, The Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, The Lawyers Association of Kansas City and the International Association of Insurance Counsel.
Karl was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, The University Club where he was a President, The Homestead Club where he was President and the Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs. He was also a member and President of the Vanguard Club. Karl was a member of the Jolly Times Outdoor Club and was a member of Village Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served on the Board of Trustees.
Karl is survived by his children Barbara Jo Schmidt and Dr. John Brian Schmidt and his wife Debbie; granddaughter, Whitney Jeanne Schmidt, all of Gunnison, Colorado.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Village Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
