Katherine L. Hartman, 88, Overland Park, Kansas passed away July 17, 2011. Visitation from 1-2 PM, Saturday, July 23, 2011. Funeral service immediately following at 2 PM at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association.
Katie was born October 13, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois. She graduated from Southwest H.S. in Kansas City, MO in 1939 and from Jr. College of Kansas City in 1941. She attended American University in Washington D.C., but it was cut short by the start of WWII. While she was in the University she sang in the Mixed Chorus, she majored in biology, and was selected for Tri Beta, a national biological fraternity. Katie was married to Harry P. Hartman, Jr. on July 28, 1943 in Biloxi, MS. She had a lifelong love of music - playing the piano, organ, and clarinet. She encouraged every inkling of musical promise in her children and grandchildren. She was an ardent jazz fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Helen Fuchs; husband, Harry; son, Charles R. Hartman; and brothers, John and Ed Fuchs.
