Kathleen (Hahler) Scott ?Kathy?, 64, passed away, August 25th at Kansas City Hospice House after a three month battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be Thursday, August 28 from 6-8 p.m. at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 29 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Kathy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 14, 1944. She is the daughter of Herman and Pauline Hahler. She graduated from Kansas City?s Southeast High School in 1962. Kathy went on to attend the University of Kansas and Southwest Missouri State University where she met, Darrell R. Scott and married him on September 15, 1968.
Kathy worked as a secretary at Panhandle Eastern before staying home to raise her children, Michael Wesley Scott and Traci Lynn (Scott) Mattis. She had much success as a ceramics teacher going on to sell ceramics to Hallmark stores in Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City.
Kathy was an executive secretary for Sprint for several years before deciding to become a realtor for JC Nichols, later Reece and Nichols. She worked hard for her clients and was respected by her colleagues. She and her husband Darrell own and manage several properties that Kathy has proudly decorated and maintained for the last 16 years.
Kathy became a doting grandmother in 2001, and again in 2002 and 2004. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially the grandkids!
Kathy was a new member of Legacy Christian Church in Overland Park, Kansas being baptized on June 23, 2008.
Her family would like to express their thanks to the many family, neighbors and friends who have shared these last few months with Kathy. Their loving kindness is unequaled.
Kathy is preceded in death by her father, Herman Hahler. She is survived by her husband and dedicated caregiver, Darrell Scott; mother, Pauline (Schneider) Hahler; brother, Thomas Lee Hahler, and his wife, Jane of Washington DC; son, Mike Scott and his son, Hunter Dylan Scott; daughter, Traci (Scott) Mattis, and her husband, Bert and their children, Julia Jane and Kail Alexander.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Kansas City Hospice House (12000 Wornall, Kansas City, MO 64145) or the National Autism Association
