Kathleen Ann (McDermott) Arnold, 79, Olathe, KS passed away peacefully December 22, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas and grew up in the Armourdale area.
She is preceded in death by her husband, of over 40 years, George I. Arnold; parents, Bernard and Marie (Bauer) McDermott; her sister, Bernadine Smith.
She is survived by her children; Dr. George E. (Susan) Arnold of Phoenix, AZ and the Honorable Karen (Kurt) Arnold-Burger of Overland Park, KS and four grandchildren; Robert Arnold of Independence, KY, Michael Burger of Columbia, SC, Stephanie Burger of Gardner, KS and Jessica Burger of Lawrence, KS; three great-grandchildren; Tristan, Isabella and Harrison Arnold; a sister; Margaret White of Olathe, KS, and a brother; Robert McDermott of Palm Desert, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen lived courageously with multiple sclerosis for 25 years. Although it quickly destroyed her body, it never destroyed her mind or her spirit. At her request, there will be no service. The family suggests contributions in her honor to the Mid America MS Achievement Center, 3011 Baltimore, Kansas City, MO 64108, http://msachievement.org/support.html. Kathleen was in the inaugural class of the Center and believed in its mission of providing therapeutic services for people with the chronic progressive form of MS. She benefitted greatly from its services and the close friendships she developed there.
