Kathleen (Kay) J. Mayberry passed away on December 3, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Joseph Mayberry, her son Richard Joseph Mayberry, her father, Francis E. Faglon, her mother Marie Brecht, sister Dorothy Trimboli, and her brother Robert Faglon. She is survived by one son, Robert James Mayberry (spouse Patricia), two daughters, Janet Marie Saunders and Karen Elizabeth Mayberry (spouse J. Jeremiah Mahoney), a sister, Joan Kohner; and three grandchildren, Lori Lynn Filla (spouse Michael), Christopher Ryan Mayberry and Travis James Mayberry, and one great-grandchild Kaden Mayberry.
Kathleen was born in Brooklyn New York in October 1927 to Frances and Marie Faglon. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in 1946. Kathleen immediately went to work as a secretary for Metropolitan Life Company. She married Raymond in November 1950 and they remained in Brooklyn for almost 10 years before moving to the suburbs of New Jersey. In 1966, the Mayberry family moved to Kansas when Raymond was transferred. They settled in Prairie Village, and Kay did not let the fact that she never learned to drive slow her down. She continued her city ways of walking to work and the grocery store.
In 1972 the family headed back to New Jersey, where both Ray and Kay worked for Singer Kearfott Division. Kay resumed her secretarial career and remained at Singer until both she and Raymond retired in 1985. After retirement, they returned to Johnson County, Kansas and lived at Kenilworth Apartments. Kathleen volunteered at Cure of Ars Parish and the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She routinely entertained her friends, and strangers, with her Brooklyn stories.
Kay was an avid reader and volunteered in the libraries of Rosewood Place and Delmar Gardens while she lived in those communities. She traveled to see her family whenever she was able, and loved visiting the extended Mayberry family at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Her sense of humor, positive outlook and strong Catholic faith were her hallmarks.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Friday followed immediately by a funeral Mass at 11 AM at Cure of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood. Kay will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
