Kathleen Perkins

Kathleen Whelan Perkins, age 62, of Overland Park, Kansas, was taken home to be with her Savior on July 23, 2014 at her home in Overland Park, Kansas after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born on December 5, 1951 to Reverend Thomas Eugene Whelan and Betty June Whelan in Independence, Missouri.  She graduated from Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri and attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Kathy was a loving example of Christ’s unconditional love to everyone she met. She was a faithful and active member in her church, Overland Park Baptist Temple, and believed that the best way to share the gospel was to love people like Jesus did. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to all.  Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Thomas Eugene Whelan of Independence, Missouri, in November of 2013.  She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, David B. Perkins; mother, Betty June Whelan; two children; Diana and James and his wife Amanda; three granddaughters; Kylena, Samantha, and Makayla, two brothers; Ronald Whelan and his wife Beverly and Timothy Whelan and his wife Star, nieces and nephews; Heather, Caleb, and Ashleigh-Brooke.  A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday July 28, 2014 at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas 66210. Celebration of life service will be held at 11am on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at Overland Park Baptist, 11648 Antioch, Overland Park, Kansas 66210.
