Kathryn Ridlen

January 29, 1932 — May 13, 2016

Kathryn (Kathy) Ann Ridlen died May 13, 2016.  She was born January 29, 1932, to George and Sylva (Schneider) McCartney, in Bloomington, Indiana.  Kathy married Thurman Ridlen on August 12, 1956, and he proceeded her in death after 58 years of marriage.

She was a proud graduate of Butler University.  She thrived in her volunteer activities after retirement including serving as a VolStar with JCCC, art docent at Nerman Museum, and genealogy research with the National Archives.  A longtime member of Valley View United Methodist Church, active with her Alpha Chi Omega sorority sisters, and groups within those organizations, Kathy contributed with her work ethic and positive, cheerful presence.  She was an avid race car enthusiast, having attended 35 Indy 500 races --and was excited when she could also attend racing events at the the speedway in KC.

She and Thurman moved to Overland Park in 1968.  Kathy is survived by her sister, Jean Spinks, Greenfield, Indiana, her son, Don Ridlen, Overland Park, KS, and daughter, Shirley Brooks, and husband Kevin, Cleveland MO.  Kathy also leaves her two granddaughters, Erin Brooks, St. Louis, MO, and Cori Hamilton (Shane), Surprise, AZ.

A life well lived, a joyful heart, a kind and gentle spirit.  She will be missed.

Gratitude and hugs to a wonderful staff at Park Meadows Memory Care who embraced Kathy and surrounded her with care, compassion, and dignity for the last three years.  Thanks to Catholic Community Hospice for providing all-encompassing care to Kathy and her family these last few weeks.
