Kathryn B. Stephens, 88, Leawood, KS passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2009. Friends may call on the family 6-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. A graveside service will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 at Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Southern Care Inc. (Hospice), in honor of Bronwyn Ruffalo, RN, Southern Care Inc., 11031 Strang Line Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
Kathryn was born June 30, 1921 in Ray County, MO. She attended Fort Hayes State University in Hayes, KS, where she was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon Sorority. In 1940, Kathryn married Bard L. Stephens, a WWII veteran, in Boston, Mass. Together they had a daughter, Stephanie.
Besides being a devoted homemaker, Kathryn was also a member of Daughters of American Revolution for 57 years, charter member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and former member of Young Matrons.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1963.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Stephanie S. Stephens of Leawood, KS; sister, Emma A. Dean; niece Donna J. Dean of Overland Park, KS; nephew, John W. Dean of Zwolle, LA and many loving cousins.
