Kathryn Thies

March 31, 1921 — May 5, 2021

Kathryn Thies, a loving and cherished mother of a large family, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Tom on Wednesday, May 5th in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mary Waldron, her loving husband of 57 years, Frederick E. Thies and her sisters and their spouses Peggy O'Mara (Jack), Mary Alice Mahoney (John), and Cecile Flynn (Bob). She was the last living member of that generation and had just celebrated her 100th birthday.

She will be lovingly remembered by her seven children and their spouses Marcy Conley (Ray), John Thies, Marilyn Sweeney (Tom), Greg Thies (Madelyn), Rita Thies (Dan), David Thies (Susan), and Mark Thies, her grandchildren Molly, Katie, Maya, Macee, Erin, Megan and Shannon, and her great grandchildren Andrew, Malachi, Gracie, Gabby and Annabeth.

During her early years, Kay lived in St. Joseph, Missouri. After marrying Fred, also from St. Joseph, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa and later to Bloomington, Illinois. In the early ‘60’s, they moved to the Kansas City area with their seven children.

Kay will be remembered for her joyful heart and warm, appreciative spirit. She was able to juggle a busy life raising seven children and also caring for her mother Mary and mother-in-law Lucile.

Kay was a very spiritual person and St. Agnes Church held a special place in her life as she attended daily mass and sang in the choir for many years. She was an accomplished pianist; recording several classical music records in her later years and shared her love of music with all her children.

Her music will play on in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.
