Kay Fulcher, 77 passed away on July 25, 2022, with her family by her side. Kay was born August 5, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to parents Francis and Helen Axline. Her childhood years were spent in Cedar Rapids where she graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1962. Upon moving to Overland Park in 1967, Kay became a loyal Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Kay enjoyed season tickets for the Chiefs and tailgated with friends for many years. Her favorite part was having apple pie after the game while they waited for the traffic to clear. Kay spent many Royals games in the left field general admission area.
Kay loved spending time with family and friends but especially enjoyed her time on “the porch” watching the deer and birds in her beautiful back yard. She loved being outdoors fishing at Truman Lake, Minnesota and Canada (Kay could be heard across the lake saying all my fish are in the SLOT!!). She loved gardening around their house and hunting with her husband Dale. She was proud of her Bohemian heritage, and 50 years ago her good friend Mary nicknamed her Kolache. She proudly had a personalized license plate “Kolache”. Kay enjoyed doing a variety of crafts, calligraphy, antiquing, playing games (21 and Farkle), snow skiing, and Country western line dancing. She was a master Christmas cookie baker – a skill she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She loved ice cream which she topped with her homemade hot fudge. Some of Kay’s favorite music was ABBA, Simon and Garfunkel, Elvis, Bee Gees, and Country Western. If you knew Kay, you knew her laugh! It was infectious!
Kay worked for the Shawnee Mission School District as an aide and kitchen cook. She also worked at Black & Veatch as a draftsmen and CADD technician. She was also an Overland Park Reserve Police officer. She knew no strangers and made many lifelong friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved cousin Linda McGoldrick.
Kay is survived by her husband, Dale Fulcher, her children Lori Jacobs (Tom) and John Kelsh (Debra); grandchildren; Connor, Derek and Emma Jacobs; Katie Dempsey (Colin), John Kelsh (Lauren) and Brett Kelsh and one great grandchild Maclaine Dempsey.
