Kenneth J. Howard, 70, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away February 9, 2009 at the KC Hospice House. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. and Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Cremation.
Ken was born December 2, 1938 in Kansas City, MO and later moved to Pryor, OK. He served in the Air Force and on returning, he graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma University with a degree in Chemistry. After graduating, he worked for Monarch Cement Company, Humboldt, Kansas as Chief Chemist and later as VP of Operations for 10 years. Ken enjoyed his home at Grand Lake in Oklahoma on weekends, boating and skiing. He later moved to Grove, Oklahoma and managed the Oklahoma Smokehouse. In 1986 he moved to Overland Park, graduated from Kansas University with a Medical Technology degree in 1989, and started work at the KU Medical Center. He retired in August 2004 after 15 years as a Lab Information System Coordinator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Survivors include his wife, Rita Howard and they would have celebrated their 25th anniversary in September; children and their spouses Renee Howard and Kevin Wilkins, Raleigh, North Carolina; Wade Howard, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Kurt and Gina Richwine, Olathe, Kansas and grandchildren Maria Howard, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Kyle and Luke Richwine, Olathe, Kansas.
