Kenneth Dean Hester, Sr., 93, resident of Lakeview Village in Lenexa passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Weiss Hester. They were married for 66 years before Mary Lou’s passing in 2019. He is survived by their four children, Kenneth Jr, Marilyn, Charles and Janet. Together they have sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Hester and Lawrence Hester, and two sisters, Frances Wilcox and Lois Cooper. He has one surviving sister, Hilda Dill, of Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was born in Washington County, Arkansas near Fayetteville on October 7, 1928. He graduated from Fayetteville High School, then moved to Kansas City where he graduated from UMKC School of Pharmacy. Kenneth met Mary Lou while they were serving with the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron during the Korean War. They were married in Japan on October 26, 1952 and returned home shortly before the Armistice was signed in 1953. Kenneth was employed for many years in both retail and hospital pharmacy in the Kansas City area. He was a long-time member of the Overland Park Church of Christ.
