Kim William Krause, 60, of Overland Park, KS, (formerly of Cherokee, IA), passed away Monday, March 11, 2013.
Kim was born May 5, 1952, and raised in Cherokee, Iowa, to August "Augie" and Marlys Krause. Kim was an outstanding high school track runner, still holding the 200 yard dash record, which led him to a full ride scholarship at Iowa State. He met his wife of 32 years, Lucy Adams, while managing the local YMCA and they wed shortly after in Kansas City. Kim will always be remembered for his undying love for his family. He found joy in coaching his sons' baseball and basketball teams to many state titles. He will also be remembered for his love of fishing at Lake Okoboji, IA.
Kim is survived by his sister, Lorri Stevenson, who will always remember her brother's dedication to his athletics, his perfectionist ways in his work, his love for his family, fishing and sports; wife, Lucy Krause, who will always remember Kim for his dedication to his family and attention to detail in managing his many responsibilities at work, his willingness to sit and listen and offer his advice to anyone who asked and his passion for life; and four sons, Adam, Kevin, Cooper and Zachary. Adam, who will always remember his father's amazing life advice and selfless guidance, Kevin, who will always remember his laugh, spirit, and wisdom, Cooper, who will always remember all the years of being coached by his father, not only on the athletic field, but off the field as well and Zachary, who will always remember his father telling him to give 110% at everything you do.
A memorial service for Kim will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2013, at DW Newcomer's Son – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to go to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery located at 122 252nd Ave. Spirit Lake, IA 51360.
