Lee Gable

Lee Gable, 86, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009. A celebration of Lee's life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 13, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice in honor of Lee.

Lee was born May 8, 1923, and raised in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1941. On June 5, 1943, he married Mable White. He served in the Navy during World War II, and was stationed on the island of Guam. In 1950, he and Mable moved to Mission, Kan., where he started his own accounting business in 1955. His business primarily served clients in Shawnee and Merriam, Kan., but included clients throughout the greater Kansas City area. He successfully operated his business for 40 years, retiring in 1995. Lee also served as the Mission City Treasurer for several years. He was a member of Old Mission Masonic Lodge, and the Mission Optimist Club, where he served as Secretary Treasurer. He was also a member of Countryside Christian Church and Unity Church of Overland Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Louise (Spuehler) Gable; brother Arthur Gable; nephew Steve Gable, and grandson Kirk Odom. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mable; daughters Anita Towns and Connie Gable; four grandchildren, Hale Towns, Janelle Albright, Kyle Odom, Courtney Odom, and five great grandchildren, Ellie Towns, Olivia Towns, Cassidy Albright, Lauren Albright and Madison Albright. Lee will be remembered by family and friends as a role model and person you could always depend on. He was a quiet, gentle, fun-loving man, and the leader of both his immediate and extended family. Love for his family was the most important thing to him, and he will be missed both now and forever.
