Lee Kennard

Lee B. Kennard, age 92, of Prairie Village, KS, died on February 8, 2008 at his home.

He was born on August 5, 1915 to Levi Wilkinson Kennard and Mabel Christie Kennard of Omaha, NE. He attended Grinnell College from 1935-1936. On February 18, 1940 he married Maxine Lecky of Omaha. He began working for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston, MA, in 1941 and relocated to Kansas City in 1943. He retired after more than forty years of service, eventually becoming business salesman for the Kansas City Office. He was drafted in 1943 and served with the United States Army, 20th Airforce, on Guam. He was discharged in 1946. Lee had a keen interest in history, was a great reader, and was an early member of the Civil War Roundtable of Kansas City. He loved pets, and raised several generations of Siamese cats: Sherman Plunkett and Georges I, II and III.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Maxine Kennard, and his children: Christie Lee Kennard (John Mammen), Thomas Burton Kennard (Christi Pitts) and David Bartlett Kennard (Debbie Frost). He was the grandfather of Megan Shihady, Brian Kennard, Zaccary Kyle Kennard (Jessica), Joseph B. Kennard and Daniel B. Kennard. Lee leaves behind many friends of all generations. He was beloved for his ready wit and gentle spirit.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 12 at D.W. Newcomer's 11200 Metcalf Ave., from 6-8:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS, on Wednesday, February 13 at 2 p.m. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church. Donations can be made to the Village Presbyterian Church.
