Lee Seybert

Lee Alvin Seybert, 88, of KC, MO passed away on February 6, 2009, at Kingswood Retirement Community.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2:00 pm at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.

Lee was born Feb. 13, 1920 in Alden, KS, son of the late Ralph Jefferson and Hazel Hendricks Seybert. He lived his childhood in Dodge City, KS, before serving in the Army Air Force from 1941-1945. Lee graduated from the University of Kansas in 1948, with a BS in Civil Engineering. Lee and Hazel Atkins were married on June 23, 1956 and raised three children in Overland Park, KS. He worked as a Civil Engineer for HNTB, Black & Veach, and Lutz, Daily & Brain, retiring to part time consulting in 1982. Lee valued the friendships he made as an active member of the Village Presbyterian Church, the Overland Park Rotary Club, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Abdallah Shrine Temple. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid reader, genealogist and enjoyed golfing.

Lee is survived by his close friend Elaine Sumner, Overland Park, KS; son Grant, Prairie Village, KS; daughter Carol Shirley and husband Marc, Olathe, KS; son Bryan and wife Cheryl, Lenexa, KS; grandchildren: Ryan Seybert, Denise Shirley Burkhart, Joel Shirley, Sophia and Sonya Seybert; great grandchildren: Rachel, Hannah, Jonathan, and Austin Burkhart; brother and sister-in-law Roy and Vashti Seybert; six nieces and twelve nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Atkins Seybert and brother Charles Seybert.
