03/24/21- 09-05/10 Mrs. Mildred Lee Newton, 89 of Overland Park, KS died Sunday, September 5th, 2010 peacefully after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Aubrey Newton (Overland Park, KS), daughters, Janell Chester (Statesboro, Ga), Pat Gilling (Overland Park, KS), son, Harvey Newton (Peculiar, MO), five grandchildren, Michele Humphries (Statesboro, GA), Jamie Griefer (Overland Park, KS), Michael, Heather and Audrey Newton (Peculiar, MO), 3 great-grandchildren, Jarret and Dylan Humphries (Statesboro, GA), Scarlett Antonides (Peculiar, MO). She has one brother, Bill Lee (Statesboro, GA). Mildred was born in Brooklet, GA. She married Aubrey and they spent their life serving our country in the US Army, traveling the world and enjoying all that life had to offer them. They retired to Overland Park, KS in 1973. Her husband and children were the priority of her life, followed by volunteer work with the Red Cross and Army hospitals. She enjoyed the Red Hat Society later in life. She was a beloved wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be Friday September 10th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, Ga. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00am in the funeral home chapel. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk KC Brighton Gardens or The Odyssey Hospice. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may sign the online register book at www.joineranderson.com.
