Leland E. Burnett, age 91, Lenexa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Lakeview Village. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25th at 11:00am at the Hillcrest Christian Church in Overland Park, KS., where a visitation will be held from 9:30am to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in care of Abdallah Shrine Center, 5300 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66202 and/or the Hillcrest Christian Church 11411 Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210.
Leland Burnett, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Burnett of 70 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his son, David Burnett.
Leland grew up in Council Grove, Kansas and loved the Flint Hills there. He was born in 1927 to Otis LeFon Burnett and Maude Wiggins in Council Grove, KS.
Leleand served in the Marine Corp during WWII, and later called to duty during the Korean War.
He moved to Emporia, Kansas where he met his wife Genevieve Embry. They were married in 1949. They later moved in 1951 to Overland Park, Kansas where Leland went to work for Hercules, Inc. where he worked for 38 years. He was a Boy Scout leader and later joined the Abdallah Shriners where he was a devoted and proud member. He drove the Hospital Van to the Shriner Hospital for Children in St. Louis for many years.
He is also survived by granddaughters; Anna and Emily Burnett, grandsons; Patrick and Chris Burnett, and great grandson Emmett.
