Lenora E. Anderson (90) of Overland Park, KS passed away April 11, 2013 after a short illness. Lenora was born in Kansas City, KS on January 18, 1923.
After attending Wyandotte High School she started working for AT & T as a long distance telephone operator. She married the love of her life, Leonard L. "Andy" Anderson in January in 1943. They had a wonderful life for 63 years before Andy's passing in 2006. During their marriage Lenora followed Andy as he traveled with the Army Air Corp. After returning to Kansas City, Lenora had several occupations: bookkeeper for Commerce Bank, worked in the industrial relations department at Westinghouse, and was an executive secretary for Bryant Heating and Air Conditioning Company. She joined Mary Kay Cosmetics in 1967 as one of the first beauty consultants in the KC area. She became a Director in 1972, a Senior Director in 1974, and for several years was an Executive Senior Sales Director. She won her first pink Cadillac in 1974 and in the years to come won 20 cars, 10 of which were pink Cadillac's. Lenora was still active in Mary Kay after 46 years.
Lenora and Andy enjoyed square dancing for over 30 years traveling to weekend and week-long activities. She enjoyed card making, playing Bunco, chili and bingo parties. She also loved watching the KU Jayhawks Basketball and Dancing with the Stars. She loved entertaining and was loved for her hospitality. She loved her family and friends and they loved her, she was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband, Andy who she lovingly called her "bald headed roommate". Her parents, Edward Tucker and Edith Teague; stepfather, Bert Teague; and brother, Raymond "Bud" Tucker. She is survived by her son, Rodney (Susan) Anderson; daughter, JanLynne (Greg) Wood; grandson, Richard (Geri) Anderson; granddaughter, Amy (Eric) Strader; and grandson, Dale Wood. She has 3 great grandchildren: Tayler Anderson, Skyler Anderson, and Nora Strader. One sister, Dee Denison, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, April 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Celebration of life service, Tuesday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m., both at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
