Leonard Ray Groves, age 88, of Overland Park, KS passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home. He was born April 28, 1921 in Columbia, Mo. Working as a carpenter he was the owner of B&L Store Fixtures. He was a longtime member of Carpenters Union Local 61 and a veteran of World War II. Married to Naomi Groves (Tate) for 68 years and together they had six children. His favorite pastime was supporting his son and grandkids in sports and will truly be missed by all his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his father, Virgil, his mother Sallie, his son Ronnie, granddaughter Moni, and grandson Jeff along with two sisters, Opha and Onita. He is survived by his wife Naomi, four daughters and one son; Jean Parker (Wayne) of Olathe, Ks., Linda Aleksaites (Alex) of Roeland Park, Ks., Peggy Hoesing (Denny) of Johnston, Ia., Diana Greeley of Shreveport, La. and Larry Groves (Babette) of Overland Park, Ks. He has 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother, Leon Groves of Mineral Wells, Tx. and Margaret Matthews of Raytown, Mo.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 4th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 3rd at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
