Leonard Wiehe, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 21, 2013. Leonard was born on January 17, 1925 and grew up in St. Louis where he attended eight grades at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Parochial School then graduated from Roosevelt High School.
At age 17, Leonard joined the US Navy and served during WWII in the European Theater. He had varied life experiences in travel and work. He worked in Denver for 9 years at a Savings and Loan followed by a decision to attend Concordia College in Milwaukee to prepare for Lutheran Lay Ministry. He served for a time in Wichita and then Washington DC. In 1970 he came to Kansas City to work at Trinity Lutheran Hospital where he met his wife Glannie Earnest. They married on July 24, 1970 and lived in Prairie Village for 40 years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. William Wiehe and wife Augusta, four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife Glannie, one sister-in-law, 8 nieces and 3 nephews.
Services are on Tuesday, May 28th at Hillcrest Covenant Church at 8800 Nall Ave. Visitation will be held at 10am and services at 11am followed by lunch at the church Graveside services will be at 2:15pm at Johnson County Memorial Gardens with military honors. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to go to: Hillcrest Covenant Church or Kansas City Hospice House at 12000 Wornall Road.
