Leota (Peters) Brockman of Overland Park, passed away May 27 at The Sweet Life at Rosehill, Shawnee, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Leota Martha Peters was born, the 9th of 10 children, to Minna (Hornbostel) and Gustav Peters of Linn, Kansas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Palmer, KS, and a graduate of Linn High School. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park. Leota and Harlan Brockman were married in 1953 and resided most of their lives in Pittsburgh and Emmaus, Pennsylvania and Wayne, New Jersey. Their family became complete with the addition of their daughter, Kimberly. Leota was a Secretary, then a full time Mother and returned to a secretarial position after Kimberly began college. Leota and Harlan returned to the Kansas City area in 1998. She loved music, singing in the church choir, volunteer work, cooking, painting, and crafting. She and Harlan enjoyed many trips abroad and especially those trips to Switzerland to hear their daughter, Kimberly sing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters-Flora Meyer, Lorna Fox, Selma Woodhams, Gertrude Pamperin, and Viola Meyer and 2 brothers, Martin Peters and Norbert Peters. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harlan, and their daughter, Kimberly of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Other survivors include her brothers, Walter Peters of Summerfield, KS and Elmer (Lorene) Peters of Linn, KS, brother-in-law, Ralph (Donna Mae) Brockman of Lee's Summit, MO and sisters-in-law, Ruth (Graeme) Rosenau of La Mirada, CA and Jane Johnson of Ames, IA. Leota was loved and will be mourned by many nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends both in the Kansas City area and throughout the country.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 31st at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 119th & Lowell. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 82nd & Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or to the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114.
